Yes. For maximum security, additionally running a personal firewall reduces the number of routes which can be used to attack your computer.
Will Prevx Home detect Spyware on my computer?
When you install Prevx Home, it does not detect existing Spyware, but it does prevent new Spyware from accessing your computer.
How do I update my security settings?
Prevx Home automatically updates your security settings every 30 days by connecting to the Prevx web site. If you want to update your security settings more frequently, click Update on the Prevx Home console screen.
Do I still need to apply patches?
Yes. For maximum security, every computer connected to a network should be at the highest security level.
How do I see the details of a potential intrusion?
You can see details of a potential intrusion by looking at the Event History.
How do I modify my protection level?
You can modify your protection level in three ways:
Setting overall maximum security
Setting individual protection levels
Ensuring that your security settings are up-to-date.
How do I set Prevx Home to notify me of a possible attack before shutting it down?
Prevx Home has three security states; Prevent, Off or Query.
If you choose Query, an Event message is generated every time a potential attack is detected.
How do I protect my security settings?
You can password protect your security settings and Event history from being modified or cleared. For details see 'Preferences'.
How does Prevx protect against exploitation of Buffer Overflow?
Prevx Home protects against known and unknown buffer overflow vulnerabilities by looking at your computer's memory and preventing unauthorized access to locations outside legitimate boundaries. The 'offending' code will be terminated (the result of a buffer overflow attack) to prevent further execution, and an alarm/report is sent.
